A Driving my Tractor a Barefoot Books kiadó könyve. Róluk tudni kell, hogy nem csupán könyveket jelentetnek meg, hanem olyan alkotásokat, amelyek a művészetet és a mesélést ünneplik. Nagy szavak? A könyveiket kézbe véve úgy gondolom, egyáltalán nem.

Itt van például a fent említett könyv. Egyszerű, kedves, színes illusztrációk, de nem a szokványos illusztrációk találhatók benne. A történet is egyszerű, már-már túl egyszerű is lehetne: a farmer a traktorját vezeti, és egyre több és több állatot vesz fel az utánfutójára. A nyelvtanulás/-elsajátítás kapcsán viszont épp ez az egyszerűség és egyben különlegesség az, ami olyan kinccsé teszi ezt a könyvet, amelynek ott kell lennie a kisgyerekek (és az őket nevelők, oktatók) polcán:

• A szövegben sok az ismétlés, amely nagyon hasznos a kicsiknek a nyelv feldolgozása során.
• A könyvhöz tartozó CD-n meghallgathatjátok a fülbemászó dalt is (tulajdonképp a könyv szövege egy dalszöveg is egyben), ami garantálja, hogy napokig dúdoljátok majd a dallamot, mondjátok a szöveget.
• A fokozatosan felépülő történet lehetővé teszi, hogy ne unalmas módon ismerkedjenek a kicsik az állatokkal.
• Az illusztráció lehetőséget ad arra is, hogy a történeten kívül beszélgessetek másról is (pl. arról, mi történik a farmon, milyen munkákat végeznek, növényeket takarítanak be a különböző évszakokban).
• A számokkal (1-5) is ismerkedhetnek a kicsik a könyv által (eggyel nő mindig az utánfutóba kerülő állatok száma).
• A színek is előkerülnek, szintén az állatok kapcsán.
• A történet végén a poén még szerethetőbbé teszi a történetet.
• A könyv végén megismerkedhettek azokkal a gépekkel, amelyeket a farmon leggyakrabban használnak (amolyan képes szótár-szerűen). Ezt követően pedig a leggyakoribb növényekről (zöldségekről, gabonanövényekről) olvashattok röviden.

Külön pozitívum, hogy a dalhoz videó is készült, a könyv illusztrációját felhasználva. Nézzétek meg!

Ha pedig szeretnétek feldolgozni a mesét, a kiadó erre is lehetőséget biztosít: színezzetek, vágjatok, készítsetek WC-papír guriga- vagy ujjbábokat ennek a pdf dokumentumnak felhasználásával.

A sorozatot 2000-ben (pontosan augusztus 14-én) kezdte sugározni a Nickelodeon. Így ünnepelheti Dora idén a 10. születésnapját.

Dora az alkotók fejében először csak egy mindennapi óvodás volt, akinek van néhány (állat) barátja, és aki minden nap felfedező útra indul. Eredetileg Tess-nek hívták. Aztán az alkotóknak át kellett alakítaniuk a figurát, mert a spanyol ajkúak felé is szeretett volna nyitni a csatorna. Így megszületett Dora, aki két nyelven beszél, sőt, büszke arra, hogy kétnyelvű. Alakját mégsem a kétnyelvűségre hegyezték ki, hanem arra, hogy a kalandok, amelyeket a kislány átél, univerzálisak, minden óvodás gyerek számára érthetőek és kedvelhetőek legyenek. Mindezt olyan interaktív köntösbe ágyazták, amely a néző gyerekeket is bevonja valamelyest a műsorba.

Bevallom, amikor először belenéztem a sorozatba, nem rajongtam érte… De a lányom másképp gondolta. Úgyhogy ajánlom Dora-t (akkor is, ha nem az angol a kedvenc nyelvetek, hisz számos nyelven létezik ma már ez a mese), kalandra fel!

Ja, és egy kicsit megkésve, boldog születésnapot, Dora!

3. Inchworm

An inchworm lived on a wide green leaf. Day after day she measured the leaf.

She inched  along the leaf: one inch, two inches, out onto the stem. Three inches, four inches. Halfway up the stem, the inchworm met an ant.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m measuring the world.”
Five inches, six inches. “The world is huge. Everywhere I crawl, I see mountains of sand, rivers of dirt. No one can measure the world.”
“I can.”
Seven inches, eight inches. Up the stem, passed another leaf. Nine inches, ten inches. Purplap! A grasshopper landed on the leaf.
“Excuse me, please. I’m measuring the world.”
“Do you have any idea how big the world is? Everywhere I hop I see wide green trees, tall yellow plants. No one can measure the world!”
“I can.”
Eleven inches, twelve inches, passed a flower she inched. Thirteen inches, fourteen inches. A bee popped his head up over the flower.

Fifteen inches, sixteen inches. Up the stem, and onto the topmost leaf. Seventeen inches, eighteen inches. The inchworm inched to the edge of the topmost leaf. Nineteen inches, twenty inches.
And off the end she fell front end over tail end, back onto her very own leaf.
“Twenty inches long. I knew I could measure the world.”
It had been a long day. All the way to the end of the world and back. So the inchworm stretched out on her very own leaf and fell asleep.

Caillou-t gyermekpszichológusok hívták életre, és könyv formájában még régebb óta, már 1987-től létezik. Caillou-t azért kedvelem, mert a róla szóló könyvek jelentik számomra a magyar Anna és Peti könyvsorozat (amit szintén imádnak a gyerekeim) angol verzióját. Caillou-val mindenféle érdekes történik a rajzfilmben és a könyvekben is, és ha angolul olvastok meséket, sokat tanulhattok ezekből a könyvekből. Nemrégiben ezekre a könyvekre tettünk szert:
